Roundtable on freedom of speech and human rights in Azerbaijan

Baku. Elnur Mammadli â€“ APA. A roundtable on freedom of speech and human rights in Azerbaijan was held on initiative of Azadlig (Liberty) bloc. According to APA, Chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Ali Karimli said there were serious problems in the field of democracy and human rights in Azerbaijan. He urged the international organizations to interfere. Karimli also condemned the arrest of young bloggers.

Human rights defenders Leila Yunus, Saida Gojamanli and others proposed ways out of present situation.

Participants of the roundtable addressed the international organizations and PACE rapporetur on political prisoners Christopher Strassel stressing the problems in the field of political prisoners in Azerbaijan. â€œSome of political prisoners were released as a result of efforts of other rapporteurs. We call on you to approach your duty with responsibilityâ€.

The participants also called on the international organizations to seriously react to events in Azerbaijan. â€œThe international organizations express their opinion in the statements, but it doesnâ€™t give positive results. Therefore the international organizations should take more principal position on Azerbaijanâ€.
