Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. The delegation led by the Chairman of the UK-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group, member of the House of Commons of the British Parliament Christopher Pincher has today held a press conference.
APA reports that C. Pincher said they visited Baku and Gabala, met with several officials during their visit paid under the invitation of the European-Azerbaijan Society (EAS).
He said the most memorable meeting was held with the President Ilham Aliyev.
The delegation has met with the Chairman of State Committee for Work with Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Ali Hasanov, MPs and visited Easy Service Center: “Easy Service Center serves the citizens. It plays an important role in anti-corruption. We have met with Human rights defenders Rena and Murad Sadaddinov. At the same time we visited settlements constructed for internally displaced persons in Shaki. Such settlements are important for improvement of life conditions of these people”.
Pincher noted that the delegation witnessed development, improvement of people’s welfare in Azerbaijan: “We are aware of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict that Azerbaijan faced. We will raise a question in the British parliament, this conflict should be settled, peoples should return their home”.
C. Pincher said the British Parliament supports efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs: “However, this is not enough. We have to influence our government that the UK government to influence OSCE Minsk Group for settlement of conflict and returning of people to their home. Territorial integrity factor must be recognized. This issue is on the agenda in Europe”.
He noted that this visit will contribute to know Azerbaijan closely and strengthening the relations between two countries.
Answering the question about possibility of recognition of Khojaly tragedy in the UK parliament, C. Pincher said that the EAS holds memorial ceremony on Khojaly tragedy in the UK every year: “That event is attended by several members of the UK parliament. People know what happened in Khojaly and this tragedy should not happen again”.
