Nazim Ibrahimov noted that it’s clearly understood that Armenian community’s attempt to hold such an event under the name of 9 May (Victory day) aims to aggravate the relations between the two countries: “At the same time, we think that creation of opportunity for celebration of Shusha’s occupation, an ancient city of Azerbaijan, as a holiday in the capital of Georgia is unacceptable. Particularly because Georgia itself is a country that has suffered from violation of its territorial integrity.
During the independence of our countries Azerbaijan has always supported Georgia in the most difficult times and didn’t take any false step towards the strategic partnership. We don’t have right to expect the same attitude from the opposite side. Azerbaijani community in Georgia was rather disappointed about this event and they expressed their opinions. We also expressed our concerns to the heads of relevant state bodies of Georgia about this issue. We believe that Georgian side will understand and take into account these concerns”.
