Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. “Our compatriots unite as one when any issue of Azerbaijan’s national interests comes up in a country where there is our diaspora. A simple comparison. You know that the world was unaware of the atrocities committed by Armenians in Khojaly just a few years ago. However, currently 13 U.S. states, where there is the most powerful wing of the Armenian diaspora, have officially recognized the Khojaly genocide. This is the success of not only the diaspora, but also of the Azerbaijani state,” Chairman of Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov told APA.

Answering the question about why the Armenian lobby’s voice sounds more loudly in the world, Ibrahimov said we shouldn’t forget that the Armenian diaspora and lobby has a 200-year history.

“You know that our Diaspora has a 20-year history. It is necessary to take account this fact while comparing Azerbaijani and Armenian diaspora organizations. Moreover, one must not forget the fact that various countries open up broad opportunities to Armenian diaspora and lobby for the sake of their national interests and the relevance of the world policy and enable them to influence the political process. From this point of view, though the Azerbaijani Diaspora is quite young it has been involved in the fight not only against Armenian Diaspora but its supporters and has done quite a lot of work in this regard for more than 20-25 years. In a few years, former Soviet colony, unrecognized Azerbaijan managed to cast a shadow on the false “Armenian myth” formed for hundreds of years. A world power like the U.S. responded each of the 125 thousand people who signed the petition on February 26, 2013 and expressed deep regret for the tragic death of people in Khojali. Therefore, the opinions on Azerbaijani Diaspora’s being weak are groundless. Of course, we are not satisfied with the successes we achieved. The Azerbaijani Diaspora has many objectives for future,” he said.

Speaking about the steps to be taken by Azerbaijani Diaspora organizations regarding the anniversary of the so-called Armenian genocide, Ibrahimov mentioned that one of the priorities of the organization’s activity is to fight against promotion of the so-called genocide.

“We prefer working together with Turkey and the Turkish Diaspora regarding 100th anniversary of so-called "Armenian genocide. This provision is also reflected in the joint action plan of the member states of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking countries. In order to coordinate the activities of the Turkic-Speaking countries regarding these issues, coordination centers are being established in eight countries. Moreover, we plan to hold international conferences in some European cities. I think we should focus on promoting the acts of terror and genocide committed by Armenians against the Azerbaijani people and more widely recognizing it rather than responding the campaigns by Armenian Diaspora and lobby. We should destroy the so-called Armenian myth formed in the world public opinion and achieve the international recognition of Azerbaijani realities. Destruction of the "Armenian myth" will lead to the destruction of the myth about the "Armenian genocide. In other words, activities of the Azerbaijani government, society and of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora have been focused on this matter and I think that the measures will yield results,” he concluded.
