Azerbaijan starts Haray aid campaign to support Iraqi Turkmens

Baku. Etibar Mammadov – APA. An event organized by the Promotion of the Genocide Realities social union and the World Azerbaijanis Congress (WAC) Baku Office and dedicated to problems that the Iraqi Turkmens have faced has been held in Baku.

In his speech at the event, WAC Baku Office Chairman Saftar Rahimli said the militants have been committing a massacre against the Iraqi Turkmens for a period of a year, forcing them out of their homeland, APA reports.

Noting that the Haray aid campaign was initiated in order to provide support to the Iraqi Turkmens, Rahimli said some organizations have already joined the campaign: “We propose that the campaign should focus on food products as the people over there have been left thirsty and starving. We, as the WAC, offer support to this campaign, and we think our effort will be a success. It’s a duty upon all of us to provide support to our compatriots living in Iraq”.

Chairman of the Promotion of the Genocide Realities public union, initiator of the campaign Jeyhun Alekberov said the primary goal is to provide financial and moral support for the Turkmens living in Iraq. He said that the society should not remain indifferent to problems that the Iraqi Turkmens have faced: “Thus we are launching a humanitarian aid campaign. I think the launch of this campaign is noteworthy.”
