Azerbaijani Diaspora in US congratulates people
According to the APA’s Washington correspondent Azerbaijani Diaspora in US extend their greetings to all Azerbaijanis on the occasion of Solidarity Day and the incoming New Year 2010.
Board Directors of AAC reminded that, during the past year, a number of Azerbaijani- and Turkic-American organizations continued to advocate Azerbaijani interests, to raise awareness of the issues concerning Azerbaijani community, and to contribute to intercultural and interfaith understanding with other communities.
“We hope that during the incoming year 2010, our efforts will continue and multiply in cooperation with all Azerbaijanis and friends of Azerbaijanâ€, -said heads of Azerbaijani Diaspora.
They also pointed out that, twenty years ago, on the last day of 1989, thousands of Azerbaijanis gathered on both sides along the banks of river Araz and broke through the border fencing between the Soviet Union and Iran. After 70 years during which this fence separated millions of Azerbaijanis living on both sides of Araz, many families were finally reunited signaling an end to the decades of "Iron Curtain" and, a year later, to the Soviet regime that imposed it. Since 1993, by the presidential decree, December 31st is marked annually in Azerbaijan as the World Azerbaijanis’ Solidarity Day.
“This holiday symbolizes not only the struggle of Azerbaijanis for freedom against the overwhelmingly oppressive empires, but also the unity of our compatriots around the world for a prosperous future of Azerbaijan. And today, we greet and join all Azerbaijanis in eternal pursuit of liberty and prosperity for our nationâ€, - stated heads of Azerbaijani Diaspora in US.
