On October 8-10, within the framework of the 12th meeting of the Islamic World Heritage Committee of ICESCO in Shusha, the participants visited Azerbaijan’s Aghdam, the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan told APA.
According to the report, Dr. Mohamed Zine El Abidine, Tunisian former Minister of Cultural Affairs (2016-202) and Head of Culture and Communication Sector at ICESCO, Director of the Islamic World Heritage Center at ICESCO Webber Ndoro, Chairman of the Islamic World Heritage Committee Mohammed Al-Aidarous, Director of the Research Institute of Cultural Studies and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan Iroda Dadashconova, and other officials, who visited the Building Complex and Juma Mosque in Aghdam, the representatives of the member countries of the committee first got acquainted with the reconstructed Imarat Complex. The guests were given detailed information about the tombs of Garabagh khans Panahali Khan and Ibrahimkhalil Khan, the last ruler of Garabagh Mehdigulu Khan, as well as the tombs of Mehdigulu Khan's daughter, poet, artist Khurshidbanu Natevan, and other prominent people who were descendants of Garabagh khans.
The cemetery, which was a victim of Armenian vandalism during the period of occupation, the tomb of Ibrahimkhalil Khan and the destroyed tombstones of Khurshidbanu Natevan were displayed and the joint restoration process carried out with Italian experts was discussed.
Following, the guests visited the restored Aghdam Juma Mosque. They got acquainted with the photographs showing the state of the mosque during the occupation period and were informed about the restoration process.
Officials expressed gratitude to the Republic of Azerbaijan for hosting the meeting and condemned the committed vandalism.
They emphasized that the restoration carried out in the Complex, as well as the restoration and construction works carried out in Garabagh by the state of Azerbaijan in general, are exemplary and fascinating in the restoration and preservation of the heritage of the Islamic world.
