Azerbaijan is one of the main participants of the Middle Corridor and is among the newly emerging global logistics hubs, APA-Economics reports, citing in the report of “Allianz Trade” (AT).
The document notes that after Russia’s intervention in Ukraine, the role of the Middle Corridor in Asia–Europe trade routes has increased. In 2023, the volume of cargo transported through this corridor rose by 86% year-on-year, while railway transportation through Kazakhstan increased by 63% in 2024.
It is stated that investments directed by Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Georgia, and Kazakhstan into railway, port, and Caspian Sea ferry transportations play a decisive role in the development of the Middle Corridor. These projects have strengthened intra-regional trade and increased the interest of the European Union.
The report also emphasizes that despite the relatively small scale of its economy, Azerbaijan ranks among the newly emerging global logistics hubs alongside Oman, Uruguay, and Panama. According to AT, the country’s investments in modernizing port and railway infrastructure strengthen its role as a strategic bridge between Asia and Europe.
