On November 19, during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), a Memorandum of Intent was signed between the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and the International Dialogue for Environmental Protection (IDEA) Public Union, APA reports.
The memorandum was signed by Leyla Aliyeva, founder and chairperson of IDEA, and Salim bin Mohammed Al-Malik, Director-General of ICESCO.
The purpose of the Memorandum of Intent is to expand bilateral cooperation between ICESCO and IDEA in the fight against climate change, jointly participate in environmental protection initiatives, and carry out other relevant activities in line with the strategic directions of both organizations.
Both organizations agreed to expand cooperation in the direction of protecting the environment, preventing land degradation, ensuring food and water security, conducting informing activities, realizing joint research and pilot projects, increasing the participation of youth and volunteers, implementing exchange programs, as well as sharing knowledge and best practices in ICESCO member states.
The meeting participants expressed their belief that the cooperative relations between IDEA and ICESCO will continue to develop, noting that expanding joint activities will make a significant contribution to strengthening solidarity and implementing more effective joint projects in order to ensure climate sustainability in the countries of the Islamic world.
