"There is a need for a modern irrigation system in Azerbaijan," Ilhama Gadimova, a member of the COP29 Organizing Committee, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Agriculture, said during her speech at the 29th high-level meeting on “Pathway to COP29: Sustainable and Resilient Future”, APA reports.

She noted that the government provided significant financial support in the form of subsidies totaling AZN 93 million for the construction of the irrigation system:

"This means that approximately $55 mln. has been allocated for installing irrigation systems on 38 thousand ha of land over the past five years. But this is not enough. We must continue and, at the same time, cover all irrigated areas with a modern irrigation system to conserve water."

I. Qədimova stated that increasing progress in integrated innovative technology and agricultural practices is important: "After the Presidential Decree which was approved in November last year, the Agrarian Credit and Development Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan will strengthen state support for agriculture and leasing activities. The government will partially subsidize interest rates on loans allocated to commercial entities using their own financial resources and will provide state guarantees. This regulation aims to increase wheat production, and mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. New technologies transform our agricultural system, making it more efficient, resilient, and sustainable."
