Today, an event titled “National Transparency Systems for Tracking Climate Action” was held as part of COP29, APA reports.

Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Energy, Elnur Sultanov, emphasized during the event that Azerbaijan calls on the global community to ensure climate transparency and stands at the forefront of this effort.

“At this event, the National MRV System prepared and presented by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources within the framework of COP29 is being launched. Discussions held with all parties following the beginning of the COP29 Presidency process revealed trust issues among parties. This issue hinders the adequate provision of climate finance. Therefore, Azerbaijan has emphasized the importance of this matter from the outset and has initiated a transparency-focused initiative in this field. Today’s event demonstrates that Azerbaijan is taking a leading role in climate transparency,” he stated.

Türkiye’s Minister of Environment, Urbanisation, and Climate Change, Fatma Varank, stated that her country unveiled its climate transparency program on the second day of COP29: “Countries’ transparent disclosure of their climate change reports is a crucial aspect aimed at implementing effective measures in this field. Türkiye conducts annual climate transparency reporting in various industrial sectors, and at the end of each period, these reports are made public. Additionally, in the transport sector, together with the Ministry of Transport, emission reports from airlines are included in the final document. A specialized laboratory has been established to obtain more accurate indicators in this field. One of our largest projects involves implementing adaptation measures against climate change in all our cities by 2100. Developing countries should be provided with technological support to submit their own climate transparency reports. Financial support is also essential for countries for the effective implementation of climate transparency. I believe it is crucial for COP29 to achieve this primary goal,” she added.

The event continued with a question-and-answer session.
