"We balance economic development with climate action and adapt to the increasing impacts of climate change," President of COP29, Mukhtar Babayev, during a video address to the event titled Climate Action Development through South-South Cooperation: The Role of NGOs at COP29, APA reports.
He emphasized that Azerbaijan has extensive experience working on South-South cooperation: "We are proud of chairing the Non-Aligned Movement for four years. This movement is just one of the ways through which developing countries can cooperate and achieve progress. NGOs and civil society groups will play an important role in the development of climate-related actions. They bring new perspectives, ideas, and strategies to the table and amplify the voices of vulnerable communities."
Mukhtar Babayev also added: "The climate crisis affects everyone, but its impacts are not distributed equally. We cannot leave behind the voices of local peoples, local communities, movements, youth, and other vulnerable groups. Their perspectives are crucial for preparing fair, just, and truly effective solutions. The private sector also has an important role in this effort. Many businesses have already demonstrated leadership in setting climate goals."
