COP29 Chief Executive Officer: Although we had coal reserves, Azerbaijan never used them

"Azerbaijan currently buys electricity from natural gas," said Elnur Soltanov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, Chief Executive Officer of COP29, during his speech at the "Azerbaijan’s Energy Transition" panel on the opening day of the Baku Climate Action Week, APA reports.

He said that Azerbaijan has never used coal: "Although we had coal reserves. We are dismantling the entire Soviet infrastructure. We will be able to save half a billion cubic meters of gas. We build not only gas-fired power plants, but also renewable energy-powered ones."
