Baku-APA. Western democratic principles are unacceptable for Belarus, President Alexander Lukashenko said, APA reports.
Democratic principles adopted in the West, including those that regulate elections, are unacceptable for Belarus, Lukashenko told a group of students and professors of the Belarussian State Economic University.
"The West is reproaching me for dictatorial ways, but every day Western governments pour water and tear gas on their own people," he said.
Lukashenko also blasted the just-concluded U.S. presidential elections, saying: "50 million people were unable to vote simply because they were not on voters' lists."
He added that Belarus will adhere to an independent policy in handling affairs at home and abroad.
"We support the independent policy, and we won't dance to anybody's tune, at least not while it is in the term of my presidency," Lukashenko said.
