Baku-APA. Three people died and nine were hospitalized in a chlorine leak at a chemical plant in Russia's central Perm Region, local emergency department said Wednesday, APA reports.
"Three people died on the spot as a result of a chlorine leak and nine others were hospitalized due to gas contamination," the department was quoted by local media as saying.
In addition, 38 more people were admitted to the hospitals for non-life-threatening treatment, the authorities added.
The accident happened at a titanium-amalgan alloy plant at 13:55 Moscow time (0955 GMT) in the city of Berezniki in Perm Region.
According to preliminary reports, the chlorine unit depressurized and an emission of chlorine occurred. Till now there is no information about any threat to the population.
The leaking pipe had been sealed swiftly and repair works were underway.
