Russian Federal Security Service to protect borders of Abkhazia and South Ossetia

APA reports that the agreement will be signed after Russian State Duma ratifies the agreement with the separatist regions on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance. President Dmitry Medvedev submitted the agreement to the parliament for ratification and called to approve it.

Seventh articles of both agreements cover protection of borders. According to the article, Russia will protect the borders of the two regions basing on mutual agreement. The document enables Russia and separatist regions to construct, use and improve military bases in the territory of one another. Russiaâ€™s Defense Minister Anatoli Serdyukov reported to the president early in September that agreement had been reached with the leadership of both regions to deploy 3800-man Russian military contingent in their territories.
