Uzbek journalist sentenced to 10-year imprisonment

Tashkent–APA. Journalist and Human Rights defender Salijon Abdurahmanov was sentenced to 10-year imprisonment in Uzbekistan, APA reports
Salijon Abdurahmanov was arrested on 7 June 2008, after drugs were planted in his car. Journalist did not plead his guilty during court hearing. During forensic –medical examination it was made clear that he did not use drugs. Journalist stated that he was not interrogated on drugs during investigation.
“Inspectors were interested in whom I cooperate with and whish sources I get information,” he said. Salijon worked in Liberty and Voice of America before. Journalist noted that he was arrested because of political order and he would appeal to the Court of Appeals.
