Yerevan –APA. US new ambassador to Armenia Mary Yovanovich began her diplomatic mission in Yerevan. She submitted copy of her credentials to foreign minister Edward Nalbandian on Friday. The post of US ambassador to Armenia was vacant for almost two years. Former ambassador John Evans was recalled from his post in 2006 likely due to his use of the term “genocide” describing events in 1915. The previous candidature of Richard Hogland, nominated by President Bush, was blocked by the Senate, since the candidate had refused to use the word "genocide". Hogland’s nomination was recalled by the president. On August 1, the US Senate approved the presidential order for Mary Yovanovich’s appointment to the post of ambassador to Armenia. Yovanovich has been working as US ambassador to Kyrgyzstan before.
