Moscow - APA. “Ukrainian Government pursues unfriendly policy concerning Russia, make the bilateral relations worse, and these acts raise concern,” says the statement made by Russian Foreign Ministry, APA reports quoting RIA Novosti. The statement says that by October 1, 2008 Russia and Ukraine should determine their approach to the agreement signed in 1997 on friendship, cooperation and partnership between the two countries.
“It is obvious that such strategic decisions are made basing on thorough analysis of the implementation of the agreement’s items and commitments on Russia-Ukraine strategic partnership. In this respect we are obliged to note that Ukrainian government has not recently pursued friendly policy concerning Russia,” the statement says.
Russian Foreign Ministry considers that Kiev’s attitude was observed more after the developments in Georgia.
“We heard no expression of regret from Ukraine for the death of civilians and Russian peacekeepers in Tskhinvali. Kiev passes over in silence the fact that Ukraine is also responsible for the bloodshed caused by sending weapons to Georgian army,” the statement says.

Official Moscow considers that Kiev’s policy aimed at becoming NATO member contradicts the agreement signed in 1997 and Russia’s security interests.
“Realizing our historical responsibility for Russia-Ukraine relations and trying to strengthen friendship relations, we consider that the agreement signed in 1997 should be prolonged for 10 years,” the statement says.
