Sergei Lavrov: “Saakashvili told an outright lie before French President’s eyes”

Lavrov called Saakashvili’s statement that Russia started the war “an outright lie’.
“Saakashvili tells a lie when he says that Russia started the war and occupied the territory of Georgia. He even took the liberty of saying that Russia had occupied Georgia previously in the 19th century. Apparently he was referring to the Treaty of Georgievsk. The 1783 treaty established Georgia as a Russian protectorate”, he said.
“It makes me wonder where Mr. Saakashvili received his education, including his historical education”, Lavrov said. “Such insulting treatment of the history of his own people leads one to think that this is the kind of thing that the leaders, who are unrestrainedly dragging their countries into the North Atlantic alliance get up to’’, he said.
