Richard Cheney: “Georgia must be NATO member immediatelyâ€

Tbilisi–APA. “The United States is against the forcible changing of bordersâ€, said US Vice President Richard Cheney during his visit to Georgia on September 4, APA reports. Cheney told journalists after the meeting with President Mikhail Saakashvili that Russia’s actions showed insincere plans of this country not only toward Georgia, but whole region as well. He said the United States would continue comprehensive assistance to Georgia and aid at the cost of 30 million USD has already reached its destination in Georgia. “Yesterday we passed decision to send one billion USD aid to Georgia. In their hearts, the Georgian people have great courage, and in America, they have a sturdy and faithful friend. We will help your people to heal this nation’s wounds, to rebuild this economy, and to ensure Georgia’s democracy, independence, and further integration with the West. The United States firmly backs NATO membership for Georgia immediately because this alliance is a guarantee of security in the worldâ€.
