Boris Klimchuk: â€œAzerbaijan-Ukraine trade turnover can reach one billion dollars before the year is outâ€

Baku. Lachin Sultanovaâ€“APA. Azerbaijan-Ukraine trade turnover was 485.2 million USD until the second half of 2008, said Ukrainian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Boris Klimchuk at the press conference on Thursday, APA reports. He said this figure was 279 million in the same period last year and totally 494.4 million in 2007, 335 million in 2006 and 259 million in 2005. The diplomat said presidents of both countries urged the appropriate government bodies to bring this figure up to one billion dollars and added that if the relations developed with current rate this goal could be achieved. Klimchuk specially emphasized increase of Azerbaijanâ€™s export to Ukraine and related it with the dynamic development of Azerbaijani economy.
He said Ukrainian business people took a big interest in Azerbaijan and a group of oil and daily goods businessmen would visit Azerbaijan in the next few days. They will be on a visit in Baku and Ganja and will hold talks with the Azersun Holding for sugar production.

Responding to question about the technical filling of Odessa-Brodi-Plotsk-Gdansk oil pipeline, the diplomat said Azerbaijan fulfilled all obligations on this issue, but Ukraine has not completed the work yet despite that it had to do that by early September. Touching upon the cooperation between the regions of our countries, Boris Klimchuk said Baku and Dnepropetrovsk, Garadag District and Ilichevsk city of the Odessa Region would sign friendship and cooperation agreements in near future.

The ambassador said Ukrainian group would perform concert at the reception dedicated to Ukraineâ€™s independence to take place in Gulustan Palace of Baku on Friday. They also expected to give concerts in Lokbatan and Sumgayit. Ambassador Klimchuk expressed gratitude to the government of Azerbaijan and President Ilham Aliyev for sending 5 thousand ton diesel fuel to the Ukrainian western regions suffered from floods.
