Few countries more condemn Russian President’s decree

London. Paris. Stockholm. Berlin. Kiev–APA. Following US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and OSCE Chairman Alexander Stubb, British, French, Swedish, German and Ukrainian officials have also condemned Russian president Dmitriy Medvedev’s decision to recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states. Spokesman for the British Foreign Office said that London would support Georgia’s territorial integrity until the end. Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt urged to respect Georgia’s territorial integrity. He accused Russia of violating international law and jeopardizing stability in Europe over its decision to recognize the independence of two Georgian provinces. French officials called the Russian leadership’s decision as a “regrettable step”. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has also condemned Russia’s recognition of two Georgian rebel regions as independent states and said it violated international law. Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Grigoriy Nemirya stated that Kiev took unchangeable and principal position to support Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
