Russian Federation Council recognizes independence of separatist Abkhazia and South Ossetia

APA reports that speaker of the upper house Sergei Mironov read the text of the appeal unanimously supported by the parliamentarians in today’s meeting. Mironov said that recognition of the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia us an important step to ensure the security of these peoples.
“We should support both republics’ striving for stability, peace and independence. Both republics have all the attributes necessary for a state,” the text said.

President of unrecognized South Ossetia Republic Eduard Kokoity attending the meeting of the Federation Council said South Ossetia and Abkhazia deserve to be independent states more than Kosovo. Kokoity called on Russian president to recognize South Ossetia as an independent state. President of unrecognized Abkhazia Republic Sergei Bagapsh also made similar appeal at the meeting of the Federation Council. He said neither Abkhazia, nor South Ossetia would be a part of Georgia any more.
