A statement of the Ministry says that official Tbilisi possesses incontrovertible evidence from NATO standard radar documenting the flight plan of the aircraft. The foreign diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia were also invited to the Ministry and given a formal briefing on the incident after which they paid a site visit to the scene of the missile strike.
On 6 August 2007, at 19:30 local time, two Russian SU-24 aircrafts violated Georgian airspace, entering more than 75 kilometers into sovereign Georgian territory before launching an air-to-surface precision-guided missile, near the village of Tsitlisubani. Russian government denied the accusations saying that they were Georgia’s jets.
Georgian Foreign Ministry said that Georgian armed forces do not possess SU 24 aircrafts, nor do they possess this type of guided missiles. /APA/
