Baku-APA. Russia attaches great importance to Central Asia and will continue coordinating with its partners to maintain stability in the region, President Dmitry Medvedev said here Friday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Medvedev made the remarks during a meeting with visiting Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev.

A stable Central Asia bears significant importance for Russia at a time when ongoing unrest in Syrian and Iran exerts growing security pressure on his country, he said.

"The processes that are unfolding in the Middle East, around Syria and Iran, have a direct influence on the situation in the region (Central Asia)," Medvedev said.

Talks of bilateral relations and economic cooperation were also on the meeting’s agenda.

It was Atambayev’s first visit to Russia after his inauguration in December.
