Public transport in Moscow to work longer on Christmas

Baku-APA. Moscowâ€™s subway, trolleybuses, buses and trams will work longer in the early hours of January 7, when Russia celebrates the Nativity of Christ, or Christmas, officials told, APA reports qooting RIA Novosti.

â€œThe operation of ground public transport on the night of January 6-7, 2012, will last until 3 a.m.,â€ Mosgortrans, a state-owned company operating trolleybuses, buses and trams in Moscow and the Moscow Region, said.

The subway said metro stations will be open until 2 a.m.

The Russian, Jerusalem, Serbian and Georgian Orthodox churches, Athos monasteries, some Catholics and some Protestants celebrate Christmas on January 7 in line with the Julian calendar. Longer working hours for public transport will allow people attending night services in churches to return home.

Roman Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans and some Orthodox churches celebrate the feast on December 25.
