Baku – APA. Police arrested 70 participants of unrests in Zhanaozen town of Kazakhstan yesterday, Interior Minister of Kazakhstan Kalmukhanbet Kassymov said, APA reports.

Minister said the situation has been stabilized in the town. According to official reports, 10 were killed, 75 civilians and 6 policemen wounded in the unrests.

Kassymov said the reduced oil workers organized the unrests. They impeded holding of the festivities on the occasion of the Independence Day of Kazakhstan.

Some workers of OzenMunaiGas (KazMunaiGas’s subsidiary) did not work in order to ensure their security. The administrative building of OzenMunaiGas was burnt, the office equipment and main documents were destroyed. Though it is reported that the oil workers, who have not received salaries for six months, participate in the unrests, some sources say the unrests are organized by outsiders.

The UN Human Rights Committee expressed concern over the unrests in Kazakhstan that resulted in the death of 10 people. The committee issued a statement calling the government of Kazakhstan to investigate the incident and restore public order without taking strict measures.
