Baku – APA. The population of Russia has reduced by 2.3 million to 142 857 thousands since 2002. The country’s census results were published today. The rural population reduced three times in comparison to urban residents. 8 500 rural areas were removed from the Russia’s map since 2002. Some of them joined other residential areas and some have been completely removed because they became empty. According to the Statistics Committee, the dense populated areas are the Central Region, Volga Region and Siberia. 61 percent of the country’s population is residing in these federal regions. This figure was 89.4 million in 20002.

The female population increases in Russia. They are more than male population by 10.7 million. The median age is 39 years in the country. There are 33 million families in Russia and 4.4 million of them are nonmarital. 137 million showed their nationality during the census. 11million of them are Russians, 5,31 million – Tatars, 1,93 million – Ukrainians. 137,9 million are the Russian citizens, 700 000 have the citizenship of other countries. 200 000 have no citizenship. 138 million know Russian. Other popular languages are English, Tatar, German, Chechen, Bashkir, Ukrainian and Chuvash.
