Acting Prime Minister Atambayev wins presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan

APA reports quoting â€œRIA Novostiâ€ that Atambayev gained 62.88 percent of the vote in Sundayâ€™s presidential election with more than 95 percent of the ballots counted, the Central Asian countryâ€™s main election body said on Monday.

Frontrunner Atambayev, 55, left his main challengers Adakhan Madumarov and Kamchibek Tashiyev far behind with 14.9 percent and 14.43 percent respectively, Central Election Commission (CEC) head Tuigunaly Abdraimov said. He however admitted that certain violations occurred during the polls.

No other candidates secured over 1 percent of the vote. Critics said the election was marred by fraud. Abdraimov admitted that ballot stuffing was registered at several precincts, adding that the election commission could annul the election results at them.
