Vladimir Putin: “The establishment of a Customs Union and Common Economic Space to lay the foundation for a future Eurasian Economic Unionâ€

Habil Suleymanzadeh – APA. “The Common Economic Space, which will come into force with the participation of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan on January 1 2012, undoubtedly, is a historical stage not only for our three countries, but for all post-soviet countriesâ€, said Russian Prime Minister, presidential candidate Valdimir Putin in the article published by “Izvestiya†newspaper, APA reports.
Putin, who touched the place and role of the CIS, noted that this union gave a chance to protect the economical, humanitarian and political relations in former soviet space: “Now we have a chance to seriously modernize the principles of our cooperation within CIS and other regional unionsâ€.
Russian Prime Minster also noted that the establishment of a Customs Union and Common Economic Space lays the foundation for a future Eurasian economic union and the other CIS countries will be able to join it. Though he said that the question in his article was not about restoration of USSR, at the same time he underlies that the integration on a new political and economic basis and a new system of values is an imperative of our era. Eurasian Union is an open project. We welcome the joining of new and CIS countries to this unionâ€.
Russian and foreign mass media perceived Putin’s article as a declaration of policy, which will be pursued by him after his returning to the presidential post.
