He was detained in the house of his parents, said lawyer Murad Musayev, who defends the interests of Mahmudov’s brother.
He said Rustam Mahmudov’s detention would help the investigation. The fact of his arrest has not been confirmed officially yet. Novaya Gazeta said the suspect for the journalist murder was detained as a result of special operation conducted in Achkhoy-Martan region of Chechnya.
Anna Politkovskaya was killed outside her house in Moscow on October, 2006. Mahmudov brothers and former militiaman Sergei Hajigurbanov are accused in the murder. They were charged with the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, but grand jury declared them innocent in February, 2009. Russian Supreme Court annulled the absolution decision and returned the case to the investigators again.
