Baku – APA. A court in the Ukranian capital of Kyiv on Monday ruled that criminal charges levied against former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko are legal, APA reports quoting “The Voice of America”.

Judge Galina Surprun said her decision, based on a three-day review of the case, meant that an abuse of power case against the former minister could proceed.

Ms. Tymoshenko’s lawyer, Sergei Vlasenko, said his client would appeal the ruling.

Failing that, Ms. Tymoshenko said in a statement that she would take her case to the European Court of Human Rights. She contends the charges against her are politically-motivated.

The former minister is accused of exceeding her powers when in 2009 she signed what is being described as an unfavorable 10-year gas deal with Russia.
