Russia wants to establish a joint electrical grid with Iran and Azerbaijan, Ali Akbar Velayati, a top adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, told a briefing on Saturday, an APA correspondent reported from Tehran.
“Russians want an electrical greed between Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan to be established, and if necessary, the need of the three countries for electricity is provided through this grid,” Velayati said.
In his remarks, the top adviser also touched upon the ongoing talks on the legal status of the Caspian Sea.
“A summit of the Caspian states will be held in the capital of Kazakhstan in the near future. During the meeting the Caspian states are planning to sign a document banning third countries’ military presence in the region. This is a very important issue,” he said.
As for Tehran-Moscow cooperation on Syria, Velayati said. “Despite the claims that Iran stands against Russia’s presence in Syria, Russian President Putin said that the two countries will continue cooperation in the region.”
The top adviser continued as saying “Tehran will host a meeting on Syria, where the presidents of Russia and Turkey will take part.”
