A Yemeni military official said at least six people were killed in the first drone strike in central Marib Province on Thursday.

The second strike killed three people in the al-Ayoon area of Hadramawt Province.

The two airstrikes were the sixth and seventh such attacks to hit Yemen in less than two weeks.

On August 7, seven people were killed in a similar airstrike in the southern governorate of Shabwa.

Four people were also killed in the US air raids in Marib on August 6.

According to the Associated Press figures based on information from Yemeni security officials, some 31 people have been killed in US drone attacks in Yemen since July 27.

The United States issued a global terror alert last week, closing its embassies in several countries, including Yemen.

In Yemen’s capital Sana’a, a US drone buzzed overhead for hours on Wednesday and early Thursday, causing panic among residents.

The United States often uses its assassination drones to hit targets in Yemen and some other countries, including Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Washington claims the drones target “militants,” but the facts on the ground show that civilians are frequently killed in the airstrikes.

According to the Washington-based New America Foundation, the US killer drone attacks in Yemen almost tripled in 2012.
