Moscow. Farid Akberov – APA. “Western countries have no facts regarding the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian authorities,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the briefing today, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.
According to him, following the reports on the use of chemical weapons in Guta on August 21, Washington, London, Paris and several European countries made statements on possibility of military intervention in Syria: “They say that there are facts regarding the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government, but they fail to reveal these facts. Therefore we insist that the UN Security Council must immediately investigate what happened in Syria on August 21. What can a video posted on the internet prove? The UK and US want to blame the Syrian authorities citing to this video. They claim that Assad administration covers up the traces of the use of chemical weapons," he said.
Sergei Lavrov called on the Western countries to refrain from exerting pressure on Damascus, support creation of normal conditions for the UN experts to conduct comprehensive and unbiased research in Syria.
"The West should learn a lesson from the previous conflicts, should not repeat those mistakes. Military intervention has not brought stability or security to any region," he said.
