Baku-APA. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Thursday the Palestinian leadership is interested to see the ongoing U.S.-sponsored peace negotiations achieving success, APA reports quoting state-run Wafa news agency.

The Palestinians are committed to establish just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, Abbas told Israeli Knesset (parliament) members of the left-wing party of Meretz.

According to the report, Abbas reiterated to the Israeli delegation that ongoing Israeli settlement construction "won't help to create a proper atmosphere for the ongoing talks."

The agency also quoted head of Meretz Party Zahava Gil'oun as saying that her party supports the peace talks in order to end the decades-old conflict through achieving peace and security.

On July 31, the newly formed lobby to push for resolving the Israeli-Arab conflict held a meeting with the presence of five Palestinian officials and decided to back the efforts to make the U.S.-mediated peace talks pay off.

The Israeli-Palestinian talks were resumed on July 30 in Washington after nearly three years of stalemate, and recently two other rounds of direct talks were held in Jerusalem to agree on the outlines of the negotiations, which are expected to last for nine months.
