Baku-APA. One person was killed when a powerful bomb exploded in Bangladesh's seaport city Chittagong, some 242 km southeast of capital Dhaka, on Wednesday night, police said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The Chittagong Metropalitan Police official who preferred to be unnamed said miscreants blasted a crude bomb in the city's CNB intersection at around 7:00 p.m. local time, leaving Mohammed Redwan, 50, injured.

He said the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital where he was rushed for treatment.

The bomb exploded amid opposition's strike.

Bangladeshi ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia' s opposition 20- party alliance has been observing the nonstop blockade across the country since Jan. 5 demanding fresh elections under a non-party caretaker government system.

On top of its blockade campaign, Bangladesh Nationalist Party ( BNP) and its 19 allies including key Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami party have been observing strike at regular intervals since the last month.

The alliance Tuesday extended its ongoing 72-hour nationwide strike till Friday morning in protest against what it said the killings of opposition men in the name of shootouts.

The fresh wave of violence has left scores of people dead and hundreds injured.
