Baku-APA. The Lebanese government has strengthened security measures to ensure safety of the Turks living in the country following the abduction of two Turkish pilots in Beirut on Friday, semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Monday, APA reports quoting XInhua.

After the abduction, the Lebanese security forces took extensive security measures around Turkish institutions in the country, including the office of the Turkish Airlines, and hotels that the Turkish nationals stay in, according to the report.

On Friday, a Turkish Airlines pilot and his assistant were kidnapped in an ambush on a bus in Lebanon's capital of Beirut. Local media reported that a group then claimed responsibility for the abduction, calling for releasing nine Lebanese Shi'ite Muslims who were kidnapped near the Turkish-Syrian border last year to swap the two Turks.

In May 2012, 11 Lebanese pilgrims were kidnapped in Syria's northern Aleppo province while on their way back to Lebanon from pilgrimage in Iran. Two of them were released soon.
