The meeting took place on Saturday, at the request of the UN secretary general.

During the meeting, the two sides have reportedly discussed the mutual cooperation between Iran and the United Nations.

Foreign Minister Zarif had earlier described the Munich Security Conference as a “good opportunity” that allows Tehran to clarify stances on diverse issues, the country’s peaceful nuclear program in particular.

“The Munich (Security) Conference is a good opportunity for us to elaborate on our stances,” he said upon his arrival in the German southern city of Munich on Friday.

He further referred to the negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program as an “important debate in the international arena”, and stressed, “It is necessary to launch dialogue and present the Iranian nation’s real viewpoint against those who try to portray an inappropriate image of Iran’s nuclear issue.”

The Munich Security Conference has become the major security policy conference worldwide. Each year, since 1962, it brings together senior figures from around the world to engage in a debate on current and future security challenges.

Each year, some 350 participants from 40 countries discuss in depth their views on the development of transatlantic relations as well as European and global security.

This year’s conference will reportedly focus on the settlement of the prolonged crisis in Syria, Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, as well as topics pertaining to cyber-security.
