The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said three people lost their lives and 11 others sustained injuries as a bomb went off near a cafe just south of Baghdad on Thursday night.
A bomb attack on a commercial street in Baghdad’s western neighborhood of Ghazaliyah also killed two people and wounded eight others.
Two soldiers and one civilian were killed when an explosion targeted an army patrol in the capital’s western suburb of Abu Ghraib.
Additionally, two mortar shells slammed into a farmhouse south of Baghdad, killing a farmer and his wife.
The developments come a day after an assailant drove his explosive-laden vehicle into a checkpoint in the strife-stricken city of Samarra, located 125 kilometers (78 miles) north of Baghdad, killing two soldiers and four Shia volunteer fighters. Hospital officials said at least 16 others were wounded in the attack.
