Baku-APA. At least 32 people were killed on Friday by multiple air raids against a rebel-held area in eastern Damascus, a monitoring group reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The government warplanes carried out several airstrikes against rebel positions in the town of Hammoreya in the Eastern Ghouta countryside, killing at least 32 people, including six children, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The watchdog group, which relies on a network of activists on ground, said the death toll would likely rise due to the large number of critically wounded people.

The activist's report could be independently verified.

The Syrian troops have been engaged in a long-running war against the rebels in the eastern rim of the capital. Just a day earlier, the rebels in eastern Damascus fired at least 12 mortar shells into a government-loyal neighborhood in the capital, leaving unknown number of causalities and property losses.
