Baku-APA. One child and two policemen were killed while five women were wounded Saturday when militants opened fire on women, who line up to receive food at a maternity and women's clinic in eastern Afghan province of Laghman, sources said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The shooting occurred at Hallokhil Maternity and Women's Clinic in Alinigar district at around 11 a.m. (local time), eastern of the provincial capital Mehtarlam city, the provincial government said in a statement.
"One seven-year-old child and two Afghan Local Police cops were martyred and five women got gunshot wounds in the incident," the statement said.
About two hours following the attack, five civilians were wounded after the militants fired five rounds of mortar shell on the neighboring Alishing district, according to the statement.
The statement blamed the armed opponents, a term referring to the Taliban insurgent group for the attacks. However, the Taliban has yet to make comments.
About 2,900 civilians were killed and nearly 5,700 wounded in conflicts and Taliban-led attacks in the war-torn country last year, according to UN mission officials.
