The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced on Monday that it will launch the Directorate of Countering Nuclear and Weapons of Mass Destruction in response to the growing threat from North Korea. According to Yonhap, the JCS said the division will focus on a "three-axis" system, including space, cyber and electromagnetic capabilities.
"The three-pronged system consists of the Korea Massive Punishment and Retaliation, an operational plan to incapacitate the North Korean leadership in a major conflict; the Kill Chain preemptive strike platform; and the Korea Air and Missile Defense system," the military stated. Additionally, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol (pictured) said he is in talks with the United States for another round of joint exercises on nuclear deterrence.
