An Air India A350 wide-body airliner damaged an engine when it collided with a baggage container while taxiing at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, APA reports citing Press Trust of India.
According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), the incident occurred in poor visibility due to heavy fog. Debris from the container, which had accidentally ended up in the A350's path, was sucked into the operating right engine. The aircraft, which was preparing to fly from New Delhi to New York, was declared unairworthy and required repairs.
India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation has ordered an investigation into the cause of the incident. Air India operates six A350 aircraft. One of them had already been sent for repairs. The company warned of possible disruptions on some long-haul routes operated by the A350.
