Iran is reportedly planning to limit the number of vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz to around twelve per day and may charge fees of up to $2 million per ship.
The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources, that the measure is being discussed as part of a ceasefire arrangement reached with the United States earlier this month.
“As part of the ceasefire with the United States, Iran has told mediators it will limit the number of ships passing through the strait to around twelve per day and impose a fee. For the largest supertankers, the fee could reach $2 million,” the report said.
According to the newspaper, several ship-owning countries have already begun negotiations with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps regarding passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
