5 killed by tornado in Indonesia’s in S. Sulawesi, N. Sumatra

Baku-APA. Five people were killed by tornado in Indonesia’s in South Sulawesi and North Sumatra province that has attacked Friday evening, an official said here on Saturday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, head of Center of Data Information and Public Relation at the National Agency for Disaster Management ( BNPB), told Xinhua that the number is final, in which five people died while 98 houses, schools and several local government office were ruined.

"Casualties were hit by collapsed trees and buildings," said Nugroho.

He said that four people were killed and 59 houses were damaged in Sidrap regency of South Sulawesi while 1 person was killed and 39 houses were ruined in Pakpak Barat regency of North Sumatera.

"In Sidrap, 215 people are taking refuge," he said, adding that the Regional Agency for Disaster Management (BDPB) of South Sulawesi province and BDPB of Sidrap regency are coordinating with other government institutions to mitigate the disaster. He said that emergency response posts had been erected in those areas.

"The Quick Response Unit of BDPB, the Red Cross, SAR team, military and police as well as local people are deployed to the scenes to provide helps," said Nugroho.
