Baku-APA. A powerful mine explosion has killed at least five people and wounded several others in Afghanistan’s troubled north, officials say, APA reports quoting Press TV.

Police say the explosion took place when the victims’ vehicle hit a mine in Qaysar district of Faryab Province.

Officials have blamed the Taliban militants for the attack.

The militants have been waging a bloody campaign against the Afghan government and the US-led NATO troops in recent years.

Civilians have made up most of the casualties in the almost 10-year war in Afghanistan.

No group or person has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Many civilians have lost their lives either in Taliban bomb explosions or in NATO airstrikes and ground attacks.

The surge in violence comes despite the presence of 150,000 foreign troops in Afghanistan.
