The vice-president of the United States, J. D. Vance, has praised Hungary’s energy policy and the leadership of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Speaking at an event in Budapest marking US–Hungary Friendship Day, Vance said that Hungary had managed to maintain comparatively lower energy prices than many other European countries.
According to foreign media reports, he attributed this to Orbán’s approach to energy security, describing it as a key factor behind the country’s relative stability in the sector.
Vance noted that energy costs remain significantly higher across much of Europe, adding that many leaders on the continent have not given sufficient attention to the issue.
He also characterised Orbán as a supporter of peace, saying the Hungarian leader had taken more steps than other European figures towards ending the conflict in Ukraine.
