The U.S. Senate rejected the funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in a procedural vote. The vote was broadcast live on C-SPAN, APA reports.

Fifty-two senators voted in favor of the bill, which provides funding for the DHS until the end of the fiscal year (which ends in the United States on September 30), while 47 voted against. To pass a procedural vote, after which a vote on the bill's passage could take place, the document needed to be supported by at least 60 members of the Senate.

Thus, the Ministry of Homeland Security will suspend operations at midnight Friday night (8:00 a.m. Moscow time, February 14). This will be the third shutdown (partial shutdown of the US government) in recent months.
